Sailing across the
Mediterranean in convoy,
it took us several days
aboard this American LST
to reach the naval port of
Taranto on the instep of
the boot of Italy. We slept
in our ambulances and ate
good old U.S. Navy food.
It was a smooth and
comparatively luxurious
crossing.
